Our Student Leaders
There are many ways in which our children can take on leading roles within the school.
House Captains
Every September, the Year 6 children who are interested in becoming a House Captain prepare and present a speech to all the Junior children in their house. Following this, there is a secret vote and the House Captains are elected. House Captains take on many leading roles within the school; supervising behaviour in the dining hall and awarding Well Done notes for the best table manners, organising fund-raising events such as cake sales, giving guided tours on open evenings and assisting with book fairs and the EBFA Senior Citizens' Christmas Party. One particularly fun part of the role is coordinating and leading the House Party near to their particular Saint’s Day. For this, the House Captains receive a small budget with which to buy games equipment and party treats. On the day, all children in their house can wear their house colour and enjoy the party!
Year 2 Prefects
We prepare the leaders of tomorrow from an early age! Year 2 children who wish to take on a lead role in the Infant department present a short speech to their classmates, from which two Prefects are elected. Once in role, the prefects help the Deputy Headteacher to select the winning classes of the Golden certificates and present them during Collective Worship. They also help to lead worship at Infant masses.
School Council
Our School Councillors are voted for by their classmates, and take on a responsible and busy role at school. The School Council is led by Miss De Leon, and meet regularly. It is the School Council who lead fundraising within the school, ensuring that the charities that we help represent a range of local, national, international and Christian causes. The School Council have also assisted with local initiatives such as tree-planting with Trees for Cities. When children have a good idea for improving the school, it is their class School Councillor who can bring that to Miss De Leon. The idea might then become a reality!

Eco Council
Did you know that in the UK, 51 million tonnes (more than half) of recyclable waste ends up in landfill? In addition, 21% of UK greenhouse gas emissions come from transport. Pupils in Years 3-6 have joined our Eco Council and meet regularly to identify ways to reduce, reuse, recycle and to protect our environment. Our Eco Council is large, with over 60 members aged 7-11, and have been chosen to represent the national charity Surfers Against Sewage at the handover of a large petition against ocean plastic at 10 Downing Street. The members are currently working towards an Eco Schools award, and undertake local litter picks regularly. The Eco Council plan the whole-school focus on Oceans Day every summer.
Worship Ambassadors
As a Church of England school, our Christian ethos is an integral part of all that we do. For this reason, a number of children in Years 5 and 6 are Worship Ambassadors. These pupils promote the role of worship in our school, helping to lead worship, particularly through the Friday prayer group meetings at Holy Cross Church. For this, the Worship Ambassadors on duty that week read through the lectionary and discuss the best reading to use. They then devise questions to ask the children who are attending the prayer group that week. Our Worship Ambassadors represent the school at important ecclesiastical events such as the diocesan celebration service at St Paul’s Cathedral every January.
The Worship Ambassadors plan and lead a week’s focus on Prayer Stations at Holy Cross Church, at least once a year. They also contribute regularly to Collective Worship, for example during Stephen Lawrence Week.
TfL Explorer Ambassadors
Explorer Ambassadors are responsible for promoting active travel, walking, cycling or scooting, and road safety. As part of our commitment to Creation Care and our fight against local and global pollution, the Explorer Ambassadors have a key role. Working with Miss Chamberlain, the team devise campaigns and competitions to encourage children to take journeys to the school that are healthier for them and for our planet.
