SOLO Taxonomy

What is SOLO Taxonomy?

Since September 2017, pupils in Nursery-Year 6 have used SOLO Taxonomy in their learning. SOLO (Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome) Taxonomy is a model of learning that is split into five levels of understanding. Each level has a name, a symbol and an action.

At first we pick up only one or few aspects of the task (unistructural), then several aspects that are unrelated (multistructural), then we learn how to integrate them into a whole (relational), and finally, we are able to generalise that whole to a new topic or area (extended abstract).
